Paris2024 – Sitting and Seating (3/3)

‘People tend to sit where there are places to sit’ is a famous quote in placemaking by William H. Whyte.
With that thought in mind, I often walk through cities to see how people meet, relax or rest in the city. Do people sit on the street furniture as the designer had in mind, or is it just an object where one determines the most pleasant position to sit, hang or lie on? What happens when you’re in a nice place, but there’s no furniture? As is often the case along the waterfront.

Sitting and Seating Paris2024 shows a visual overview of three locations in Paris, Rue de Pont Neuf and the Paris Plages – fĂȘte des jeux – along Canal Saint-Martin and Bassin de la Villette, captured during the Olympic Games.
