Paris2024 – The Olympic Place Games (2/3)

Paris2024 gives placemaking an extra boost. We know from Paris that they have done a lot in recent years to make the city more livable. In addition to the measures to make the car less dominant, the Paris Plages are also well-known examples, of which the ones along the Seine are the best known.

But you will also find these places elsewhere in Paris, such as along Canal Saint-Martin and Bassin de la Villette, which have been upgraded for the games under the title fête les jeux

The courtyard gardens that are so characteristic of the center of Paris are also places of peace, relaxation and play. In this petrified city they also provide the necessary cooling, which makes these pleasant places that you would like to go to – like Jardin du Palais Royal

The aim of placemaking is generally that these projects (eventually) acquire a permanent character in the public space. But in the temporary, special objects also arise – certainly during the Olympic Games.you would like to go to.

In addition to the large fan zones in the city, you were also regularly surprised by courtyards as you walked through the city. Which were transformed by a large screens into intimate places to watch the games together.

For the real fans, a village had been built in Parc de la Villette with pavilions where the various countries presented themselves.Next to the impressive venues of India and France stood the modest but impressive Volia House of Ukraine with the story of sports in times of war. (Volia is an unique Ukrainian word that means both ‘will’ and ‘freedom’ at once.)
The TeamNL House was also located in this village, a venue of average size, but with the most striking supporters – not only here, but throughout Paris the ‘oranges’ were not to be missed.

Finally – mirrors always work!
The mirror ball La Géode in Parc de la Villette may be well-known, but the encounter with the mirror building on Place du Palais Royal was a real mind fuck. A temporary object that almost blends into its surroundings through the mirrors. Indirect selfies are taken en masse for both objects, in which the most beautiful poses are adopted.

A mirror connects people to each other and to themselves.
